Grace CollinsBaby Care

Becoming parents for the first time brings so many mixed feelings. You might be excited about the new member of the family, but you also might be worried if you will be capable of bringing up your child. Your life will completely change when your baby is born, and it is not an easy task to take care of a baby, but you will be able to do it. The following are some of the tips for first-time parents.

Handle your newborn baby with care:
If you haven’t spent much time with the newborn baby, you need to understand that they are very fragile and you need to very careful when you handle them. The baby cannot keep its head upright, and thus you need to hold the baby’s head while carrying them. The newborn baby is tender, and thus it is not ready to play rough with you. Try to keep them away from elder siblings as they might accidentally hurt them.

Sanitise the entire place:
Newborn babies don’t have much immunity, and thus you need to make sure that they are not exposed to germs as they are at higher risk of getting an infection. Thus, always keep the baby clean and sanitise all the things that are used by the baby. Wash your hands before holding the baby and keep the surrounding clean and disinfected.

Never shake the newborn baby:
In your excitement, you might want to shake the baby but never do this as it might cause bleeding in the baby’s brain. Be careful not to shake your baby too hard while waking it up.

You will get tired:
Having a baby is not an easy task, and thus you need to forget about having a regular sleep for some time. You are going to get tired, and thus you must not obsess over it. Accept the fact that you are not going to get a full night’s sleep and you can compensate this by taking a small nap whenever the baby naps. Try to take shifts with your spouse to take care of the baby in the night so that both of you will share the work. If your baby has trouble sleeping, you can gently try to rock it or even nurse the baby so that it will be able to sleep properly.

Get the father involved:
Raising the baby is the responsibility of both the parents and thus the father must be involved in various activities. Make your spouse to do some chores for you so that you can spend more time with the baby. The baby needs to love and affection of the father and thus you need to make sure that both the parents play a key role in taking care of the baby.
